Feed Hondurians One Million Meals

Honduras is the third poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and is currently undergoing politically motivated sanctions that are hurting the already needy population.  This proposal is aimed at delivering 1,000,000 servings of rice and beans to the desperately needy people in the Tegucigalpa, Honduras thru a joint effort of Rotary District 5890, Rotary clubs of Tegucigalpa, the Rotary districts/clubs in Texas, and Hunger Plus.  RI President John Kenney and the Rotary Action Group (RAG) on Hunger and Malnutrition Have clearly identified Hunger as major world problem and a priority for Rotary.  This project will help the needy in Honduras and serve as a model for similar projects in other needy areas.  Click on story heading for more detail information.

Let's take on the challenge to feed 1,000,000 meals to those in extreme poverty in Honduras. The meals are less than $.04 per meal. If a club or individual decides to help then:

Proposal
 
Clubs and Districts in Texas and Honduras will jointly raise local funds and pool their resources.  Hunger Plus will act as facilitator for the project.  Funds will be used for parching 44,000# of beans and 44,000# of rice.  They will be shipped to Tegucigalpa, Honduras and be bagged in 5# bags with the Rotary and Hunger Plus logos printed on the bags.  The Club Ritario de Tegucigalpa will be the lead in all in country activities.  Needy areas to be served will be identified by the 7 Rotary clubs in Tegucigalpa areas.  On one day all the clubs will go out and distribute the food to the needy.  Press and TV coverage will highlight Rotary and the effort to help the needy.  Rotary leadership is encouraged to participate in the distribution.
