There's Still Time To Sign Up for Guatemala Hands-On Mission

Want to "do good in the world"? Then sign up for one of District 6440's two 2009-2010 hands-on mission trips to Guatemala. There are a few spots left, but they're filling up fast, according to Larry Kanar, the district's International Service Advisor.
Each group will be limited to 30 volunteers. The groups will travel back to back going the third and fourth weeks of January. The first group will leave Chicago January 16 and the second group will leave on January 23.

For those who are experienced in, or are willing to learn to do light construction, we will be building a structure to house a library at Ak'Tenamit. For those unable to do the building construction, there will be shelving, varnishing, and other routine maintenance to complete. The groups will each work at Ak'Tenamit from Monday through Friday and will finish up the trip with a day and a half to two days in the historic city of Antigua.

Ak'Tenamit is an indigenous community development organization based in the rainforests of eastern Guatemala that promotes long-term solutions to poverty through programs in health, education, and family incomes. It is run by and for the Q'eqchi Maya. The Guatemalan Tomorrow Fund is the US-based, non-profit (501 C-3) corporation that raises funds and provides logistical support for Ak' Tenamit.
