Rotary International Conventions can be an exciting, memorable few days with passionate Rotarians. Being in Montreal this one is closer than ever!
Get all the details HERE We have hotels blocked, a link to the form IS RIGHT HERE - Please read on for notes about hotels. USE THIS BLOCK BY DECEMBER 4. After that date all blocks are removed. You do not have to pay for your room now although they will ask for a credit card.
We have 6 hotels blocked, they are all a maximum 15 minute walk to the convention at the Palaise De Congres de Montreal and Bell Centre. There will be shuttle buses. This room block is for use for any 5370 club. The block for these hotels is for June 18/Friday to June 25 Friday, AM departure. You can book whatever nights you wish. We have 25 rooms per hotel.
To book, fill out the form and send in to the address on the form. I hate filling out forms so I called toll free 1 888 722 2220 (Montreal business hours, so 2 hours later than us) and they answered immediately and booked me. To use the block do not call the hotels, call the toll free number on the form. Of course Rotarians are free to book anywhere you wish, or choose to use this block or not.
You must mention "5370 Rotary" for the block. Or write in BOLD on the top of the form. Use it or loose it by December 4.
See the hotel form mentioned above for maps and rates.
If you have questions, EMAIL ME at wave@telus.net

Leading the way through Learning
'The Belize Literacy Program'
The 'Belize Literacy Program' is a major education initiative lead by Rotary District 5370 and participating Clubs. The program will influence the education of some 60,000 Belizean students in the subjects of Mathematics, Science and Language Arts by July of 2011. The program is directed at students in grades 4 through eight, critical years in the education process.
The Program has two distinct goals; 1. To increase the current pass rate on grade eight PSE tests by 25% by June 30 of 2011. 2. to increase student retention rates, through grade eight, by 10% by June 30, 2011 Accomplishment of these goals will significantly improve the literacy rate in Belize and position it more competitively in world markets. The objectives will require a multi faceted approach involving key components of a leading educational system. The strategies being used in this prototype model will be shared with the Rotary world. This will assist others wishing to engage in similar programs of similar scope.

Kevin Hilgers of the Rotary Club of Grande Prairie here. I have always struggled with a proper speech when handing out a Paul Harris Fellow. I looked online, couldn't find anything I thought was good enough. The pins come with suggested scripts, but I wanted better. So I typed what I thought would be a proper script. Click HERE to download the script. You'll have to modify, localize, update, but I think you may find it gives the presentation the proper class and honour it deserves. It's also a sales pitch for WHY we give to RF. There's no sense keeping it to myself. if you find it of use, enjoy. Let me know if you do use it! I have had clubs from Pennsylvania, California and a few others use it and that's cool. Kev. wave@telus.net |

Rotary Districts were first established in 1915, at which time the Calgary Downtown Club was the only one in our area. In 1957, the present District was established as District 536 without change to the geographic boundaries of the original District. Since there were only 30 clubs in the District at the time, Governor Glen Peacock of Calgary initiated an extension drive which resulted in eight new clubs receiving their charters, setting a District record.
