We are reprinting an article from the Rotary Club of Canfield's newsletter. This was the President's Corner article written by Sieglinde Warren. It introduced not only the District Governor and his visit to the Canfield Club, but also the office of district governor. Doug Simpson has asked that we reprint this article in the hopes that it will inspire one or more of the outstanding leaders of the Rotary Clubs of District 6650 to consider taking a leadership role beyond their local community as the governor of our great district. As part of the redoubled efforts to End Polio Now, the district is asking each club to raise $3000 over the next three years. We are asking that clubs not simply donate the money, but rather put together program to raise the money from the community. Such programs not only raise money for Polio Plus, but will also raise awareness of the program and Rotary's role in fighting polio. More... |

The Rotary Foundation will be making some substantial changes to the accounting practices effective July 1, 2009, which will restrict the ability of clubs to transfer Foundation credit from one person to another. These changes might well affect individual clubs that routinely pool the credits from members who have left the club or died to currently active members. Club Foundation Chairs might wish to act in the next few months before the changes take place. More... |

Just a year ago, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation issued a challenge grant for $100 million to Polio Plus. In less than a year, Rotary has raised over half of our $100 million. With that success and the prospect that Polio could be wiped out in just a few years, Bill Gates, Jr. has just pledged another $255 million to Polio Plus. And that is only part of the good news.
