Rotary members are always quizzed about what their organization is all about and now the public has a chance to learn more about the service club. What better way to kick-start your membership efforts than attending the District Membership Seminar at North Shore Senior High. Registration starts at 8:00AM; Seminar 8:55AM - 1:00pm

On Saturday, Aug. 8, Rotary District 5890 will sponsor a membership seminar, "Reach One, Keep One" at North Shore Senior High School, 353 N. Castlegory in Houston, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Delegations of club membership committees, Rotary officers, new members and those interested in joining Rotary will be treated to a morning of sessions to offer assistance and provide information about the club.

"Every year the District invites all of the clubs for a membership seminar," Ibrahim "Abby" Abou-Awdi, District Membership Chair and former past president of the Galena Park/Jacinto City Rotary Club said.
This year, Awdi said the District will concentrate more on diversity in the clubs. By diversity, he not only meant culturally, but age as well.

"A lot of our clubs need younger members in them to be able to sustain themselves into the future."
While the seminar is intended for club members as a whole, Awdi said it was a perfect time for any professionals or business owners in the community who are interested in joining the Rotary, to come and learn about the deeds performed by Rotarians locally, and around the world.

Member retention, new recruiting tools, diversity and a number of other topics will be addressed by top speakers during the day.

The morning begins at 8 in the school auditorium and then Awdi said there would be breakout sessions to address specific issues and give training.

The District Governor will also address the convocation and issue a challenge to each club to meet goals set for March 2010.

Also on the agenda is how to bridge the gap between Interact (14-18, high school clubs) members, and Rotaract Clubs (18-30, college) into full Rotarians once they have graduated college.

Cost for the event is $10 for Rotarians, and it is free for first-year Rotarians, guests, Rotaract and Interact members.  The seminar is being sponsored by the Galena Park/Jacinto City and North Shore Rotary Clubs.

Rotary International brings together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Members usually meet weekly in local clubs for breakfast, lunch or dinner, which becomes a social event as well as an opportunity to organize work on their service goals.
