|As you know, the popular TV show, "Extreme Makeover" is constructing a new home in Kemah, and Rotary District 5890 has been an integral part, supplying material, supplies, labor and financial support.

We are now trying to raise $142,000 to pay off their mortgage as part
of the show. Space Center Club President Jon McKinnie put the
challenge to his club and our District on Monday and since then the
response has been tremendous with over $60,000 pledges. All funds must
be pledged or in hand by 5pm on Weds., January 13th. We have runners
available to come get the checks or you may use a Mastercard or Visa.
This family certainly embodies and lives our motto of "Service Above
Self" and we have no doubt that our hand up will "pay it forward"
through their selfless contributions back to those in need.

Rotarians have been working hard to put the face of Rotary on an Extreme Makeover Home Edition house being built in our District this week. Clubs and Rotarians have been generous in many ways including donated volunteer hours and building materials, special fabrication of children's gifts and toys, and feeding the volunteers.
Those who have been involved have been touched by the story of the awesome family receiving the home makeover. Larry and Melissa Beach family are both 40 years old and have 13 children...9 adopted (5 with special needs) and 4 biological. One of their sons serves in the Marines and is stationed at Camp Pendelton. Larry is a line mechanic for Centerpoint Energy and Melissa is at home full time focused on these previous children. Their family home was flooded during Hurricane Ike and quickly became a haven for mold, snakes, rats, etc... The house was demolished down to the studs and concrete while the family lived in FEMA trailers for the past 15 months...the good news is Ty and Crew from Extreme Makeover Home Edition are rebuilding a fabulous home for this precious family...and now is our chance to help make their life even better.
This family fostered 85 children before adopting the 9 of their own...and they adopted the ones no one else wanted. They have a family income of $60,000 and still make time to serve others. They were right there during Hurricane Katrina helping out the Houston Food Bank in the food distribution never knowing they would be victims of the next big one: Hurricane Ike.
...REMEMBER-- The future of Rotary is in YOUR HANDS!!!! So far, we have come together and raised $60,000 in just 24 hours...we have 8 hours to raise the final $80,000...and we need YOU!!
Thank you again for all you do~~ Whether you can give $100, $1,000, $2,500 or even more...we need YOU!!! If each Rotary Club either gave or raised $2,000 from their membership...or even from our friends...our goal would be exceeded and this family would have a GIANT burden lifted off of them...
Let's lead...and make sure the nation is reminded that Rotarians Step Up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
