 | Restoring the Old Fort Well - check out how Anthony Wayne Rotarians spent their Saturday morning, on July 21st, showing respect to their city's history.
The Anthony Wayne Rotary Club continues in the tradition of restoring monuments in the Fort Wayne area for over 30 years, restoring over 50 monuments and plaques honoring historical figures and veterans from the Civil War to WW II. Their largest restoration was the statute of Gen. Anthony Wayne. It’s just one example of how this fine club gives back to the community.
The Old Well was important to the fort and its people and saved them from Native American fire attacks in 1812. The first Fort Wayne was built nearby in 1794. Today’s marker sits on the very site of the subsequent forts built in 1804 and 1815.
Club President Amber Recker said, "Restoring the monument is a small thing to do to show respect to those who contributed so much". It's projects like this, that illustrate the service to communities that Rotary clubs perform throughout the world.
