The District Vocational Committee is chaired by PP Barry Burnett of the Rotary Club of Ballarat South, click on contacts [left side and scroll down to Vocational Service] to contact him. This Committee has a vast array of suggestions for clubs to take up as Vocational projects in their local community. Some of these are -
-
Mock Job Interviews/ Career development. Maybe offer a young person some part time employment with your business, after checking first with parents and the school.
-
Stage a Franchise Expo in your town. As unemployment increases, this may be a way of creating employment. Also, arrange Business Plan and Marketing Plan training.
-
Start a "Can Do" campaign to encourage people to talk up their community. Maybe institute a community skills audit, and distribute it around the community.
-
Conduct a "brainstorm" on the vocational needs of your community and develop a plan of action to address the needs.
-
Select and award a certificate or engraved plaque to a local business for their efforts in environmental consciousness or vocational training.
-
Invite employers to nominate one of their staff for a club Pride of Workmanship Award.
-
Assist people with disabilities to gain employment and/or access to community activities.
-
Arrange for Club Members to present classification talks, maybe followed by an industry visit.
-
Present an Award to a Year 12 student at final assembly (Best Clubman equivalent, NOT Dux )
-
Offer to act as a mentor to a young person in their first 6 months of employment.
