MEETING JUNE 4, 2013

President Al MacLean presided over the meeting.

He welcomed Selwyn Kossuth and guest speaker Jim Cash.

Birthday: Peter Wilkins June 4.

President Al provided the humour for the evening

Happy bucks were donated by Shohreh Amin, Bruce Brown, Allan Pleasance, Liz Durdan, Selwyn kossuth, Chris Chorlton, Jack Scoffield, Fred Durdan and President Al.

Peter Wilkns circulated a sign up sheet for flower planting at Richard's Memorial Park.

Anil Anand invited members to his annual  Garden party on June 22.

Peter Newhouse reminded the members to bring Chairs, plates and Cutlery to the BBQ on June 11.

50-50 Draw. Once again Anil Anand not only had the winning ticket, but also, skillfully picked the Queen of Spades and won the Jackpot of over $200.

Correction.  Apologies to Bruce Brown from the  Bulletin's editorial staff. Bruce Brown's name was inadvertently left out from the list of members that planted trees at Richard's Memorial Park on May 25. The video showing Bruce planting a tree with 2 helpers has ben purchased by Gawker.

Subject: RC Mississauga-Lakeshore's 40 Rotary Wheels for Learning Sponsored Students in Cambodia

Dear Fellow-Rotarians Al and Jack,

I returned from Cambodia in April and am slowly mailing out all the 1,231 bicycle recipients to their wonderful donors! This Picasa link will take you to an album of the 40 forms, a group shot and a video of the 40 students in rural Battambang province that received bikes sponsored by the generosity of your club.

They were distributed by our team of Rotarians and Friends from the Gravenhurst, Sudbury Sunrise and Minden Rotary Clubs and students from Cambrian College in Sudbury.
IfSound that will depart for Cambodia in January 2014 for another 3-week distribution trip to Cambodia. There's always room for a few more if any of your members would like to join us!

Please also find attached a thank you letter to your club.

Many Thanks again for your support,
Lisa McCoy,
Field Coordinator,

April 25, 2013

Dear Members of the Rotary Club of Mississauga-Lakeshore,

We wish to thank you again for your donation to our international program,

Rotary Wheels for Learning.

Your donation provided 40 much-needed bicycles for Cambodian students, making the difference between getting an education and staying home. In rural areas, the bicycle is also the vital link for a family to get to a medical clinic or market.

Enclosed is a photo and the hand-signed forms of your sponsored children.

A total of 1,231 bicycles were distributed in January/February 2013 by our team of 19 Rotarians and Friends! Many bicycles were distributed to rural children in Battambang Province, one of the most severely landmined provinces where there has been little support for landmine-affected families. Other target areas included rural Takeo and Koh Kong provinces and to children who live surrounding the Phnom Penh garbage dump.

Please visit the above websites to see photographs of this year’s bike distribution ceremonies and the recipients.

Once again – Thank you for your generous support.

Sincerely,

Patrick Bongers, Chair

International Committee

Rotary Club of Gravenhurst

President Al introduced our guest speaker Jim Cash.

Jim, a resource teacher in IT with the Peel Board of Education, gave us a very interesting and informative presentation on how we can protect from online scams, fraud and identity theft.

He identified and discussed 10 tips that we can practice to protect ourselves.

1. Email Phishing,  2. Phone phishing,  3. Anti-Virus programs,  4. Emails,  5. Online Buying and Selling.  6. Passwords,  7. Wireless network,  8. Hot spots.  9. Updates,  10.  Back up files.

Bruce Brown thanked Jim.
