The Littleton Rotary Club has made a donation to Life is good Playmakers to purchase 5 play kits full of Equipment. Each contains numerous play items that help child care providers conduct dozens of cooperative games and activities for young children, creating a joyful, playful environment.

Play Kits in Haiti

The work of Playmakers involves the use of play to heal and strengthen children to overcome poverty, violence and illness. Research on the Playmakers' program shows that it has a significant positive effect on the social, emotional and cognitive development of children.

"Life is good Playmakers Ayiti wish to thank the Littleton Rotary Club for the bags filled with play equipment that we received recently" said Jean Guerson Sanon, Executive Director, Life is good Playmakers Ayiti. "These play kits are used by Haitian Playmakers in schools, orphanges, psychosocial play groups etc. to help hundreds of children play joyfully. We help their child care providers explore and experience the many games and activities they can do with this equipment to bring more joy into their classrooms and nurture the creativity of the children entrusted to their care. Thank you for helping us carry out our work to heal and strengthen the children of Haiti."

The following article is from the Littleton Independent - The Littleton Rotary Club has long supported community projects including scholarships through the local high school. This year, though, the organization is honoring long time Rotarian Alfred J.  McConnell of Harwood Avenue with a dedicated scholarship in his name. Club President Paul Avella said the purpose is two-fold: to honor a long-serving member who has been especially involved in youth programs, and to make the Rotary contribution more visible in the community

“The ….Al McConnell Scholarship of Excellence [will] be awarded annually to a Littleton High School Senior who is a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) alumnus and who has achieved excellence in academics, leadership, integrity and citizenship,” the Rotary announced. “The scholarship value is $1,000 and honors …McConnell for his years of hard work organizing and facilitating RYLA [in the area] and for his unyielding commitment to the betterment of the youth of Littleton.”
