| Posted by Rick White on May 22, 2013 This week's speaker was arranged by Rotary Club member Brandon Alvarado. His name is Aaron Pastula, a co-worker of Brandon's at Merrill Lynch. Aaron will speak about the economy in general, rising health care costs and some financial solutions to these issues. An interesting and timely topic. Thanks Brandon for setting this up for us. If that isn't enough, tomorrow will be one of our favorite meetings. Glady Kabatack will be here to present $500 scholarships to four very deserving Glendale Community College students. Their stories are always inspirational and this year will be no different. Hope to see you there. | | Posted by Rick White on May 22, 2013 To quote President Brian Bergh "WOW!!! We did it!" Did what? We made the First Annual Jewel City Fun and Fitness Ride a HUGE success. Please plan to attend our June 6 meeting to hear all about it. For now, a big Rotary "Thank You" to everyone who pitched in to make this event happen. I think it was a bigger job than we anticipated, but that didn't even slow us down. Special thanks needs to go to President-elect Natalie Komuro. Natalie eats obstacles for breakfast. Without her leadership, this event could not have happened. And without her support team, this couldn't have happened either. Thanks to: Bill Knauf; Brandon Alvarado; Brian Bergh; Cal Devnich; Chris Knowles; Elizabeth Manasserian; Elizabeth Tismeer; George Saikali; Grigor Grigoyan; Stephen Bache; Kara Sergile; Kirby Higashi; Nathalie Winiarski; Rye Baerg; and Sarah Joung. This event was a whole Club effort and I am sure I left somebody significant off the list. As a Club, we can be proud of what we accomplished with this event!
| | Posted by Brian Bergh on Apr 10, 2013 On Saturday, April 6th we helped with the Glendale Healthy Kids Community Health Fair at the Pacific Edison Community Center. It was a great event and a wonderful time of service. Thanks to all who served (In no particular order): Brian Bergh; Kaigan Loera (Brian's step-daughter); Tye Veden; Stepehen Bache; Natalie Komuro; Bill Knauf; Jack Kabateck; Elizabeth Manasserian; Bob Nellis; Hal Hanable; Ray Fuentes; Makiko Nakasone and Ray Kwok. Hope I didn't miss anyone from this list! | | Posted by Brian Bergh on Jan 30, 2013 Our club is involved in many, many worthwhile projects. But the Dictionary Project has got to be a favorite. Seeing the looks on the children's faces when they get their very own dictionary is proceless. We had a wonderful time at both Balboa and Edison Elementary schools. Check out Vicky Rangsuebsin's pictures from Balboa on Shutterfly http://share.shutterfly.com/share/received/album.sfly?startIndex=16&sid=8EYtnLJqzaMQa&fid=9cf81143ef76843 | | Posted by Rick White on Dec 14, 2012 It was a cold and rainy December Wednesday. But the weather didn't dampen the spirits for the Club members involved in the Annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing day. The Salvation Army Red Kettle program is one of their largest fund raising events of the year. The money collected helps low income, working families in the Glendale area. In spite of weather, we raised $143.12 for the cause. |
