5:30 PM First Meeting of the Year. Check with Ruth for details

Feb 05, 2015

In addition to our usual fun and frivolity, there will be some serious club business taking place.  We will take the time normally allotted for a guest speaker and use it for the benefit of standing committees.  Come prepared to discuss and finalize your committee's plans, goals, aspirations, and project preparation.

If you have not yet pledged your time and talents to a committee, tonight will be the perfect time to pick the one that is perfect for you (or perhaps it will pick you...).  Each member giving a little bit of themselves makes our little club the great club that it is.

We will also give five minutes at the start of our meeting, for Barbara Dieter to introduce a new and exciting STEM opportunity: the Digital Minds Robotic Team.  This recently formed student organization has been selected to compete in a competition that is nothing short of a mind boggling.  They must build and program a Robot capable of completing Assistive Technology tasks that will become the stepping stones for tomorrow's industrial robots.

They will be asking for financial support in their upcoming endeavors and will return later this year to provide us with a full program on their organization.

"April is Rotary Magazine Month"

Committees will meet in lieu of having a speaker tonight.

After conducting committee business, each table will be asked to come up with a favorite Luna Vista project and then champion that idea as a possible Rotarian article.

Think about it, the articles in each month's Rotarian educate, inspire and challenge us.  Every club has a story to tell and many are worthy of publication.  This meeting could be a jumping off point for formally presenting a success story about Luna Vista.  Maybe it will simply be posted as a few paragraphs in an online forum, or become a story submitted to the Daily Democrat.  But maybe, just maybe, we can tell the tale of the little club that could; and how we did it.

"Photovoltaic Systems - Lease or Purchase? Which is best for you?"

To own, or not to own?  That is the question.

We all know that solar panels are a pretty good idea for most home owners, but the nagging question remains: is it a far better thing... to lease a system with near zero up front costs, or finance a system and own it forever?  Eric Darling, of Solar City, will provide us with all of the facts and figures we need to help make an informed and intelligent decision.  Learn why the notable name behind the Solar City name thinks leasing is beneficial for the homeowner and for his own bottom line.

"countdown to Brew Fest with final assignments"

August is Rotary International's "Membership" emphasis.  Does that mean Recruiting new members?  Retaining old members?  Or Revitalizing current members?  Those 3 R's are all part and parcel of why Luna Vista is such a vital and productive club.

This will be one of the last opportunities to finalize Brew Fest plans during a meeting.  If you can't be here, be sure to send your input to someone who can speak on your behalf.
