Fellow Rotarians in District 5370:

Many of you are familiar with the efforts of Rotarians in District 5370 who have been working over the past couple of years to create a significant and visible legacy project at Fort Edmonton in celebration of 100 years of Rotary in this District. Rotarians created Fort Edmonton in 1966, on our 50th anniversary. It seemed natural, through a community service project – the expansion of the Selkirk Hotel and possible new location of the District 5370 office, to re-connect Rotary to Fort Edmonton Park.  The Park is this region’s 2nd largest tourist attraction and a jumping off spot to other Alberta destinations in District 5370.

We are delighted to announce our first Rotary Legacy Project fund raising event, bringing “an evening with Dr. Oz” to Rexall Place on Thursday, June 5th, 2014.   ROTARIANS CLICK HERE FOR PRESALE CODE!

Rotary Friendship Exchanges are when Rotarians get to travel to each others country and visit.   It is purely for fun and friendship.  This is when a group ofImage Rotarians travels to another in the world and is hosted by Rotarians.  Later the host group comes to our district. A fantastic way to travel the world and make friends with people you have something in common with: Rotary! Plans are under way for Rotary year 13/14 and 15/16 exchanges and it should include you!  We are currently looking at Taiwan and India. Click this page for complete details

Our first D5370 VTT will be headed to Honduras to apply their skills and experience to assist the micro-finance office of Uniendo de America in Tegucigalpa, the capital city, and to the surrounding area to help train the small business owners receiving loans. Here is our stellar team chosen to leverage their vocation background to help alleviate poverty in D4250.

Team Leader: Donna Ducommun (RC of Edmonton Glenora) Edmonton, AB

Retired commercial banker with experience in training and mentoring a range of commercial and small business clients. As a branch manager, Donna brings valued skills in team leadership.  She also has had exposure to micro-credit and International projects with Rotary.

Aside from Donna, the team is composed of four members fluent in Spanish, three Rotarians in our District and one non-Rotarian.

It all started when two of our members visited Lisbon for the Rotary International Conference. The two members that went were: my husband Jeremy McConnell and myself Kristi Larson. Throughout Lisbon I kept on seeing Rotary's "this close" campaign photos. They were on the backs of buses, posters at bus stops, on bill boards and several posters at the conference centre. I said to Jeremy....when we get home I want to do a "this close" campaign in our club and showcase our local celebrities: our members.

Meet our District Governor for 2013-14 and share in the excitement for what is shaping to be a great year to ENGAGE ROTARY and CHANGE LIVES.

Rotary Districts were first established in 1915, at which time the Calgary Downtown Club was the only one in our area. In 1957, the present District was established as District 536 without change to the geographic boundaries of the original District. Since there were only 30 clubs in the District at the time, Governor Glen Peacock of Calgary initiated an extension drive which resulted in eight new clubs receiving their charters, setting a District record. The Edmonton Club was chartered in 1916.
