January message

I have visited all 66 clubs in our District. Each Club has its unique character, but all the clubs and all the Rotarians have common purpose - the object of Rotary. When I ask a question to fellow Rotarians about what makes them Rotarians or why they are Rotarians, I get different answers and we know that all the answers are correct answers.

As we begin a new year, I would like to share the sentiments of a District Governor colleague of mine, Deepak Agrawal of District 3060. He summarizes all of our answers beautifully:

Why I am a Rotarian?
Rotary is Service above self.
Rotary is an opportunity to care and concern about our community.
Rotary gives smiles for miles to millions.
Rotary is a window to the world of hope and happiness.
Rotary breeds and reaps love and peace.
Rotary is the eye to eager and enthusiastic youth.
Rotary is a launch pad for the journey of international understanding.
Rotary is a torchbearer of vocational wisdom.
Rotary illuminates us with integrity and innovations.
Rotary transcends generations and races.
Rotary is fun, fellowship and friendship fathomless.
Rotary is a ‘do it’ dream of mankind.
Rotary is a thing of beauty- a joy forever!
Is Rotary a way of life? It is life itself.
And that is why I am a Rotarian

In 2011-12, I will ask Rotarians to Reach Within to Embrace Humanity . I will ask you to search first within yourselves, to understand that all of us, everywhere, have the same dreams, the same hopes, the same aspirations, and similar dilemmas. When we understand, and truly feel, that others’ needs are the same as our own, we begin to understand how important our work is.................Together, we will Reach Within to Embrace Humanity . And in peace, harmony, and friendship, we will bring change – and a more joyful world.
