David Molyneux is Executive Director of Prison Fellowship Victoria

Prison Fellowship Victoria is an interdenominational Christian organization that engages with and provides support to prisoners, ex prisoners, their families and others affected by crime through a range of services and activities in Victoria.  It is a member of Prison Fellowship International, the largest volunteer organisation working in the Corrections area both in Australia and internationally.

Prison Fellowship has a presence in all 14 prisons in Victoria. At the core of their service provision is the team of 260 dedicated volunteers, men and women, who visit prisoners across the State.  They provide friendship, mentoring and pastoral care support for prisoners.  Volunteers give more than 3,000 hours throughout the year in this service.

 

Currently they receive no Government funding and rely heavily on donations, fundraising activities and grants from philanthropic trusts.

 

David will bring Sean Wood with him, who is a graduate of the Prison program and is putting his life back together.

David will do a brief power point presentation of 10 minutes then ask Sean to share for 5 minutes followed by a 5 minute conclusion.

 

Speaker March 3rd 2010 - Paul Dyer

We are pleased to advise that we have secured Paul Dyer as speaker on 3 March.  Paul, as you may be aware, is the founder and  Director of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra (ABO). 
The ABO is expanding its concert series into Melbourne now that the new Recital Hall is available.

Wednesday February 3rd 2010 Rotary Exchange Student Rosalie Swank gave us a most delightful presentation about her home country the town she lives in and some of the places she has stayed and visited in Australia. Pictured above and enjoying friendship  Rosalie (right)with Past President Ian Henry's daughter Caitlin Henry (left).

We would like to thank Rosalie very much for her delightful presentation and wish her the very best for the rest of her stay in Australia.

BBQs - Super Sunset Series - Volunteers Required

Volunteers Needed.
The Rotary Club of Albert Park have been asked to provide and man  a   BBQ on the first three dates of the following event.
Great opportunity for the club to raise funds. Great events to be involved with.

Your assistance could comprise :-

 

a)      Finding a corporate sponsor by using the attached 'SPONSORS NEEDED' formto corporate sponsors. Click Here

b)      Playing on the day and perhaps putting together a team of 4 players by using the attached detail to individuals (see Below).

c)       Registering your own interest to play on the day by using the Golf Day invitation attached.HERE

VOLUNTEERS...... Sanitarium Weet-Bix Kids TRY-athlon

Date: Sunday 14th March 2010.
Location: CataniGardens, Melbourne.
Shift times: 6-6.30am start for 5 hours

Albert Park Rotarians and friends please keep this date free.  Sanitarium TRY-athlon have once again asked for us to assist with the volunteering duties.
Note: We have been advised that no one will need a working with children card for this event.

200 volunteers are needed to assist in the smooth running of the Kids TRY-athlon .Volunteer duties will be to assist and encourage children aged 7 to 15 years participating in the Weet-Bix Kids TRY-athlon. The aim of the day is for the kids to have fun in a non-competitive environment where every participant receives a medal and a finisher's certificate.

Volunteer roles will include:   ENCOURAGING THESE YOUNG PEOPLE !!!
*Getting  Ready and
Numbering
Encouraging the kids to 'get ready' to enter transition by wearing their helmets & shirts. Writing event numbers on the kids' upper arms with large nikkos. On completion of numbering volunteers (marshals) will be reallocated to the following sections: Swim, Cycle, Run and Recovery and may be asked to assist with bike check out from the transition area when their initial duties are complete.
*Transition

Assisting the children with racking of their bikes, guidance during the event ,security , and bike "check out" after event.
*Swim

Crowd control and supervising kids into age groups for swim start. Helping to pack up signage then assist in Transition .
*Cycle

Guidance along cycle course on closed roads along Wharf and Station Road. Helping with pack up of road closure equipment and signage then assist in Transition .
*Run

Guidance along run course within Camp Shortland Reserve. Helping to pack up of equipment and signage then assist in Transition .
*Recovery

Manning a tent to supply water to every finisher.

Further information
Volunteers are required to be at CataniGardens between 6.00am-6.30am. Sign on at the "Meeting Point" tent located near the finish line. Briefing will be at 6.40am. The first jobs will start at 7.00am to assist with checking in and numbering the youngsters, and putting bikes in racks. At around 8.00 to 8.30am some will move to swim, cycle, run or recovery to be ready for the 9.00amstart. Wear comfortable walking shoes and suitable clothing; bring snack and sunscreen.          

A cap, T-shirt and botted water will be provided in a kit bag. Volunteers should be over 16 years of age.
